UTC and Erlanger Partnership Forges Career Pathway for Pre-health Students
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Pre-Health Students Services, Center for Professional Education, and Erlanger Baroness Hospital Announce Exciting Partnership Program
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Pre-Health Students Services, the UTC Center for Professional Education, and Erlanger Baroness Hospital are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership program designed for UTC students aspiring to attend medical school or physician assistant (PA) school. This innovative initiative will fund 10 seats in the Fall 2024 Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) course offered by the UTC Center for Professional Education.
The program aims to provide UTC pre-health students with valuable hands-on experience and professional training in a clinical setting desired by professional schools. Selected participants will have the opportunity to earn their Certified Medical Assistant license and gain unparalleled clinical experience, making them well-prepared for their future careers in healthcare.
Participants in this program will commit to one of two work arrangements:
- Full-Time Employment: Work full time for one year in an Erlanger-run clinical setting, ideal for students planning a gap year before starting professional school.
- Part-Time Employment: Work part time over the course of two years, allowing students to gain experience while continuing their studies.
In addition to earning their CMA license, students will benefit from unique clinical trainings and mentorship opportunities, enhancing their readiness for medical or PA school applications.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Overall GPA of 3.4 or higher
- Current UTC student or UTC alum
- Completed at least 30 credit hours at UTC (excluding transfer, AP, CLEP, or other college credits)
- Interest in pursuing medical school or PA school
- Willingness to adhere to the attendance policy of the Center for Professional Education and the employment requirements of Erlanger Baroness Hospital

Interview Schedule:
- July 15th, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
- July 17th, 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM
- July 18th, 9:00AM – 4:00PM
All interviews are held in Eastern Daylight Time. Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview, only applicants who are contacted will be interviewed.
