Volunteer Opportunities
There are many opportunities for STEM Education students to pay it forward. If you see one that interests you, contact Dr. Jennifer Ellis to start volunteering.
Tutoring at Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer
We serve children affected by pediatric cancer and their families through specialized intervention beginning at diagnosis and continuing throughout their lives.
One of the services we offer to affected children and their siblings is after-school tutoring every Tuesday evening.
We are in need of one or two volunteer tutors that are comfortable with high-school level math and English.
The sessions will take place Tuesdays around 4:30 or 5:00 PM.
Tutoring at East Lake Academy
The TN-Ready math tutoring will be from April 9th - April 26th, Mondays - Thursdays from 4:30-5:30. (No Fridays) We would greatly appreciate UTC students who are strong in math to serve tutors to assist us as we prepare for TN-Ready testing. For more information, please contact Mrs. Callie Branham at [email protected].
Challenger Center
Perry Storey, Director of the Challenger Center, is working with 15 juniors from the STEM School. He is looking for mentors/helpers to help during project-based lessons. More information will be given upon inquiry. Contact Dr. Ellis at [email protected].
CGLA STEM Night
Every quarter, CGLA hosts a STEM Night Open House for students and their families. The most recent STEM Night took place October 4. STEM Education has been invited to take part in this Open House. We'll prepare one or two STEM lessons, activities, or demonstrations that can be done in 15 minutes, and present them to the passersby. The next date is TBD, but if you're interested or have questions, email ste[email protected].
