About UTC’s Center for Urban Informatics and Progress (UTC CUIP):
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Center for Urban Informatics and Progress (UTC CUIP), a pillar of the UTC Research Institute, is at the forefront of urban transportation innovation. In partnership with the City of Chattanooga, UTC CUIP is dedicated to the city-scale deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies, with a vision of creating interoperable and scalable solutions for safe streets for vulnerable road users and more energy-efficient mobility. Along with its public and private partners, the center has secured funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Department of Energy (DOE), and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support the deployment of IoT, connectivity, and edge computing technologies in over 120 intersections, mid-blocks, and a portion of the highway. Leading these efforts, UTC CUIP and its partners are paving the way for a smarter, safer, and more connected urban future.
